Chinese smartphone maker Nubia, the brand which has been used even by the Chinese First Lady Peng Liyuan, unveiled a series of upgraded handsets on Wednesday to celebrate the three-year anniversary of the company’s establishment.
One of the handsets, Nubia Z9 Mini Elite, has been upgraded with a brand new technology, eye pattern recognition, the exact biometric authentication technology embedded on ZTE’s latest flagship device Axon.
Ni Fei, the senior vice-president of Nubia Technology said at the event “Our users can use eye-scan to unlock their phone or encrypt applications,”. Further he also added “The technology brings maximum protection of user’s privacy as well as creates a new interactive experience.”
ZTE, the parent company of Nubia before the latter declared financial autonomy in June, has worked hand in hand with the US biometric security technology startup EyeVerify Inc to make the “world’s first smartphone” with eye-based biometric solution, named as the Grand S3, at the Mobile World Congress 2015 in Barcelona.
Gold colored Nubia “MyPrague” and Nubia Z9 Max Elite were also being introduced at the yesterday’s unveiling event.
To compete in the rat race with the other cut throat rivals of today’s smartphone market, Nubia also announced that they will sell 30,000 Nubia Z9 units online, with a 1,000 yuan discount each, before the forthcoming “Nov 11” shopping festival — China’s biggest annual online sales event. They also declared to add more number of devices if the demand exceeds the 30,000 units.
Since their birth in 2012, Nubia was hailed as an international brand. Its first device was designed by the famous Italian handset designer Stefano Giovannoni and the product was launched in both Russia and Sweden.
European countries, such as France and Germany will be Nubia’s first target market as their previous parent company — ZTE has got success to gain mature business to consumers (B2C) promotion and distribution channels in these countries. Company officials said that overseas markets such as North America, Latin America and South East Asia will follow the Europe’s path, eventually.
ZTE launched Nubia Z9 smartphones in India in May, and they unveiled Nubia “MyPrague” series in Prague, the Czech Republic, in July.
Currently, Nubia phones are available in several countries worldwide including the United States, India, Russia, the Czech Republic and Spain via the collaboration with Amazon and Chinese e-commerce giant JD.com.

Hmm. But i bet Chinese smartphones for 2013 will pblabroy be a lot better than HTC or SONY. I am currently in love with Meizu's mx design. If its available in our country and priced as low as nexus 4 i' ll pblabroy buy it. Right now i'm waiting for the nexus 4 to come out and fingers crossed that the price remains the same. If not i'll just buy a ip5 and send an email to google with a mddle finger just to make a point. I'd rather pay more money for ip5 than pay a jacked up price for Nexus 4.Just out of curiosity, do u guys have the email address for whose in charge of google?
