Lenovo Phab2 Pro, the World’s first Google Tango enabled Smartphone, goes for sale in the US

Lenovo Phab2 Pro: It is no secret that Google has been hard at work on Tango, a technology that would take Augmented Reality to the next level with the combined use of depth sensors and a unique camera system to aid advanced 3D mapping. According to Google, all users would need to do is to hold up their smartphone to find virtual objects and information overlaid on top of their surroundings. Now finally, the world’s first Google Tango smartphone has become a reality as the Lenovo Phab2 Pro has been made available to the US markets.

The Lenovo Phab2 Pro‘s launch has been plagued by several bouts of delay, but the world’s first Tango-enabled smartphone will now be available for purchase at a price of $499 (approximately Rs 33,000). The Lenovo Phab2 Pro comes equipped with a 6.4-inch QuadHD display with a pixel resolution of 2,560×1,440. The smartphone is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 652 processor and an Adreno 510 GPU coupled with 4GB of RAM along with 64 GB of onboard storage (expandable via microSD).

On the camera front, the Lenovo Phab2 Pro comes with a 16 MP primary camera that is equipped with depth and motion tracking sensors, alongside an 8 MP secondary shooter with f/2.2 aperture. The smartphone runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow and is backed by a 4050 mAh Li-Ion battery. Connectivity options on board the Phab2 Pro include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, BlueTooth v4.0, GPS, and microUSB v 2.0. A fingerprint sensor is housed at the back of the device.

But the specifications are mere data, and they do not give a complete picture of what the phablet’s Tango abilities can help users achieve. In fact, to celebrate the launch of the first ever Google Tango smartphone, Google has introduced 35 different Tango apps which are already available on the PlayStore. Several of these apps are augmented reality games while others are more functionality-based. For instance, the app Measure allows users to use their camera to measure anything in their home. Other apps can help users find information based on what they see in front of them or find directions.
