Sad but true. the Xiaomi Mi 6, one of the most anticipated phones of the year ant the successor to the Mi5, is set to launch this year without the newly launched and most advanced Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 System on Chip (SoC). In place of the 835, the Mi 6 will launch with the slightly dated Snapdragon 821. which created a splash when it was unveiled last year. Xiaomi users may be disappointed with the flagship phone when it launches this year. However, not all is lost for some rumors say that a Snapdragon 835-powered Mi 6 may be launched some time down the road as well.
Xiaomi has been facing some heat with the supplies of the new Snapdragon 835 dwindling as the demand is outstripping the supply of the new chipset. The new Snapdragon 835 is expected to power a slew of big ticket launches later this year, including the soon-to-be-launched Samsung Galaxy S8. Xiaomi may end up following the likes of LG and HTC who have launched their own flagship phones, the G6 and the U Ultra respectively, which were launched with the SD 821 chip in place of the new SD 835, as Qualcomm’s offering is commonly abbreviated. The new Xiaomi Mi 6 is very highly anticipated across the world.
Naturally, there has been no confirmation from the world’s 4th-largest smartphone maker officially. The only silver lining is that a different version of the Mi 6 may be launched later this year which will feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835. The bottlenecks in the supply chain of Qualcomm’s pride and joy are expected to be resolved by then, paving a way for a more powerful and perhaps more expensive Xiaomi Mi 6 in the near future.
