Samsung Galaxy Note 9 May Have a Display-Embedded Fingerprint Sensor

If the latest reports are to be believed, the all-new Samsung Galaxy Note 9 will have its fingerprint sensor embedded under the display. This is one feature which Samsung, the South Korean giant, has been trying to do for a pretty long time. The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is still being introduced to the world and the news about the next generation of the phones is already here.

The rumor was first brought into circulation by noted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, from KGI Securities who is more often correct than wrong. He has said two things primarily: that Samsung is planning to embed an optical fingerprint scanner Galaxy Note 9’s display. He has also said that the device could be up for grabs in Q3 of 2018.

The Galaxy Note 9 may have the fingerprint scanner on the front from next year

We had yesterday brought you news that the Samsung Galaxy S9 would have a lion’s share of all the Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoCs in the year to come. This is likely to make it a very significant launch. Note that the current generation of the Galaxy S8 series has an elongated display which made it difficult for the fingerprint sensor to be placed under the display. This is why the sensor was moved to the rear where it smudges easily thanks to the proximity with the rear camera sensor.

Also, remember that Samsung had initially planned to have the display embedded fingerprint sensor in the current batch of the Note 8 devices. This was not possible, however, as the technology was not available on time. So, it was pushed to the rear and the LED flash unit and heart rate sensor now find their place between the dual camera module and the fingerprint sensor of the cameras.

There is no information if the Samsung Galaxy S9 and the S9+ smartphones would carry the same feature or not. However, we cannot sa for certain that they will miss the feature. Also, now that Samsung is taking the new technology to new heights, will Apple do the same?
