Google Rebrands Android Wear Smartwatches to Watch OS with New Update: Report

Google has officially rebranded its Android Wear Smartwatches operating system to Wear OS that was introduced in 2014. Presently, only the operating system is being rebranded and there are no new hardware or software updates for now. Google has also designed a new logo and has also launched a new website for the same. Google has posted details of the new rebranded operating system in its official blog and has called it “a wearables operating system for everyone”. In addition, the company has also released a list of watches that will receive the latest update on its blog.

Though Wear OS has a new website in its name now, it should be noted that it is still the same Android Wear operating system. The latest update, however, does not come with any new features. But it is still good to see that Google has finally given some importance to its Android watch operating system. When the company launched Android Wear 1.0 in 2014, it worked only on Android watches that are paired with Android smartphones. Later, Google rolled out compatibility to iPhone making it usable by iOS users as well.

“We’re announcing a new name that better reflects our technology, vision, and most important of all – the people who wear our watches. We’re now Wear OS by Google, a wearables operating system for everyone. You’ll begin to see the new name on your watch and phone app over the next few weeks.” Dennis Troper, Director of Product Management, Wear OS by Google, said while commenting about the rebranding.

Google has also shared a list of the smartwatches that will receive the latest update on its support page. The list includes Fossil Q Venture, LG Watch Sport, Louis Vuitton Tambour, Michael Kors Sofie, Montblanc Summit, Hugo BOSS BOSS Touch, Movado Connect, Tommy Hilfiger 24/7 You, Guess Connect, Gc Connect, Fossil Q Founder 2.0, Fossil Q Marshal, Fossil Q Wander, Michael Kors Access Bradshaw, Michael Kors Access Dylan, TAG Heuer Connected Modular 45, Diesel Full Guard, Emporio Armani Connected, Fossil Q Explorist, Michael Kors Access Grayson, Fossil Q Control, LG Watch Style, MIsfit Vapor, Nixon Mission, and Huawei Watch 2 (non-cellular versions).
