IRCTC App for Android Receives E-Wallet for Booking Tatkal Tickets Instantly

Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation or IRCTC that is in charge of looking after the catering services and online booking of tickets on the Indian railway network has rolled out a new feature on its Android app to enable users to book Tatkal tickets.

It has added an e-wallet feature that will allow users to book Tatkal tickets instantly by using the IRCTC Rail Connect app. To ensure faster booking of tickets, the e-wallet feature has been rolled out that will allow the users to make payments easily and instantly after depositing some money in advance on the e-wallet.

The e-wallet is similar to other mobile wallets and can be used to book tickets on the Indian railway network at one go without having to provide debit or credit card credentials. Users just need to deposit money on the wallet before attempting to book a ticket through the app.

The rollout of the new feature was shared by IRCTC on Twitter. It also stated on its official website, “Like other e-wallets – Paytm and Mobikwik – IRCTC e-wallet allows its users to deposit money in advance with IRCTC, which can be used as a payment option while booking train tickets. This e-wallet facility of IRCTC will help you save time by eliminating payment approval cycle.” IRCTC has also informed that if a train gets cancelled due to unavoidable circumstances, the money will be refunded to the user’s account through which the ticket was originally booked. IRCTC also tweeted the same stating  “PNR (passenger name record) will be automatically cancelled. Refunds will be processed in the same account through which payment was made.”

Apart from the e-wallet feature, IRCTC has also rolled out a cab booking facility to users of the Rail Connect app. In addition, it has also confirmed a Food on Track app to facilitate faster food delivery to users who avail onboard catering. It posted a tweet stating “Now your favorite food is just a click away even during Train Journey! IRCTC brings to you delicious meals from a restaurant of your choice.”

Users can avail this feature by mentioning their PNR number while ordering food on the app. In case the train or the ticket is canceled, the food order will also automatically get canceled.
