Chinese smartphone manufacturer Lenovo which also owns Motorola has started rolling out the Android 8.0 Oreo update to the Lenovo K8 Note and the Moto Z2 Play devices in India. The update is being rolled out in batches, so it may take a few days for all the users to receive the update on their respective devices.
Coming to Lenovo K8 Note first, the smartphone was launched in August 2017 running on Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box. The device is finally receiving the Android Oreo update along with the Android security patch of April 2018. The update comes with a size of 1GB and is available over the air (OTA).
Lenovo has also released a note on its official forum stating that the update procedure may drain the battery so it is recommended to charge the phone to 100% before proceeding with the update. It may also cause some devices to overheat for a few days after the update is installed.
Coming to the Moto Z2 Play, the Android Oreo update comes with a size of 1GB which also includes the Android security patch of April 2018. The update is available over the air and is being rolled out in phases.
Users can manually check for the update by diving to Settings> About Phone> System Updates. If an update is available, users need to download and then install it. However, it is recommended to take a backup of all the data and also make sure that the battery level is at 80% or more before proceeding with the update.
Talking about the new features that Android Oreo is set to bring, we have the Picture-in-Picture mode that will enable the users to perform two tasks simultaneously. The update also brings Smart Text Selection to improve the copy and paste option, improved battery life by stopping unnecessary apps from running in the background, faster booting time and security updates and bug fixes with the latest Android security patch.
