The popular messaging app Whatsapp will soon get a new group video calling feature as confirmed by Facebook at the F8 Developer conference being held in San Jose, California. The messaging platform is currently owned by Facebook and has over 1.5 billion users worldwide.
To recall, Whatsapp currently supports voice and video calls on the app. This is a very popular feature among the users, especially in India because users can make calls without incurring calling charges of any sort and also make video calls over the internet. The addition of the group video calling feature is likely to make the app more appealing to the users and make it more usable too. Rumors were doing the rounds since the last couple of weeks that the group video calling feature is likely to be rolled out soon and now the company has officially confirmed it. Although the exact date of the rollout is still unknown.
Facebook also revealed at the F8 conference that the Whatsapp Status feature is one of the most used features of the platform. It has also revealed that the feature is used by 450 million users on a daily basis. While users spend around 2 billion minutes on the audio and video call features of the app every day. This is also a prime reason for bringing the group calling feature to the app.
The feature is likely to be rolled out in the coming months through the exact date has not been announced yet. In February this year, a new feature was spotted on Whatsapp that allowed up to 4 users to be added to a group video call including the first participant. As per the images shared by the Whatsapp team in the F8 conference, the group video calling feature may enable 4 users to chat among themselves. Facebook is also rolling out a similar group video calling feature on the popular photo-sharing platform Instagram.
Apart from these, Whatsapp is also scheduled to receive new stickers feature soon. The new stickers were recently spotted on the Android beta update all users will be able to use them once it is rolled out globally.
