OnePlus 6 Receives OxygenOS 5.1.6 Update to Add Selfie Portrait Mode and More

Chinese smartphone maker OnePlus has announced that it has started to roll out the OxygenOS 5.1.6 update for the global variants of the OnePlus 6. The update brings some new features like Selfie Portrait mode, support for VoLTE and the ability to display battery percentage on the status bar. To recall, the latest update has already been rolled out for the Chinese variants of the device last week.

The major highlight of the OxygenOS 5.1.6 update is the addition of front-facing bokeh effect feature or the Selfie Portrait mode. This will enable the 16-megapixel front-facing camera of the OnePlus 6 to blur out the background of the subject with the help of the bokeh mode. OnePlus had enabled the bokeh effect on the rear camera before the launch of the smartphone and now the latest update will add the feature to the front-facing camera as well.

The new update also brings 4G VoLTE support for Idea customers in India. In addition, it also brings improved stability for dual-SIM variants of the device and calls quality optimization. The OxygenOS 5.1.6 update also brings the ability to display the battery percentage on the status bar.

Apart from these features, the new update also improves the ringtone volume and sound quality of the device. Other additions include improved system stability, optimized power consumption, dual $G SIM settings, schedule time for Do Not Disturb mode and smart answer for Bluetooth devices.

The update is being rolled out in phases over the air (OTA) and the first two countries to receive it are Germany and Canada. It is likely to be rolled out in other countries in the coming weeks. Size of the update is 223MB.

“As always, this OTA will be incremental. The OTA will reach a small percentage of users today, and we’ll begin a broader rollout in a few days,” said Manu J, Beta Program, and Developer Relations, OnePlus,  in a blog post.
