Microblogging site Twitter has started to bring in some changes on its platform as a cleanup drive. The company has been deactivating 1 million accounts per day to arrest abuse on its platform and also to combat fake news. Now, the company is rolling out a new server-side update in its Android version that will change the navigation layout. The Navigation Bar that held tabs like Home, Search, Notifications and Messages have has now been shifted to the bottom of the page to aid one-hand usage of the application. This is a server-side update so the users will not have to update the app to the latest version.
Twitter has confirmed on its platform that the update has already started to roll out and will be available to all Android users soon. If you still have not received it, then you will have to wait for a couple of days as the update is being rolled out in batches. Apart from this feature, all the other features remain the same.
The action bar can still be seen at the top of the screen which disappears as you start scrolling. This feature will remain the same after the update. However, since the navigation bar has been moved to the bottom, you will no longer be able to switch between tabs like earlier. Also, the color of the Navigation Bar will be white or blue depending on the mode you are using (Night or General).
Meanwhile, the company has started to deactivate accounts in a bid to comply with the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation. Apparently, Twitter accounts under the age of 13 years are being suspended by the company to prevent bullying and abuse. However, some accounts over the age of 13 years have also been suspended by the company. This has forced the users to create brand new accounts again.
