Popular instant messaging app WhatsApp had been testing the ‘Mark as Read’ and ‘Mute’ buttons to enable the users to perform these functions directly from the notifications. Now the company has rolled out the Mute function for all users on the latest version of WhatsApp for Android beta. Reportedly, the button will be available after you have received more than 51 messages from a particular contact.
Apart from that, WhatsApp has been reported to add a new stickers preview for the Android version to test new stickers in the future. It may be recalled that the availability of stickers on WhatsApp was announced at the Facebook F8 conference held back in May 2018.
The Mute button will enable the users to mute messages from a contact directly from the notification after he/she has received more than 51 messages from that particular contact. The Mute button will be available just beside the “Reply to” button in the notification panel.
As per a report by WABetaInfo, the Mute Button is now available on WhatsApp for Android beta version 2.18.216. However, folks at Gadgets360 have reported that the new feature is available on newer beta versions as well. They have tested this new feature on WhatsApp for Android beta version 2.18.218. The latest version of WhatsApp is now available for download through the Google Play beta programme or third-party APK sources.
While the Muto Button has now gone live, the ‘Mark as Read’ feature which was first noticed last week alongside the Mute button feature has not been made available. WABetaInfo reports that the ‘Mark as Read’ feature allows the users to mark messages as read directly from the notification panel without actually opening the message.
The Mark as Read feature is expected to be rolled out by the company in the coming weeks. We will keep you informed of any development in this regard in due course of time.
