HMD Global, the licensee of Nokia smartphones had revealed the beta preview of Android 9 Pie update for Nokia 6.1 earlier. The update was expected to be rolled out soon. But now, the company has announced that it will skip the beta update for the Nokia 6.1 and directly roll out the Android 9 Pie update for Nokia 6.1 in the coming days.
The announcement comes from Juho Sarvikas, Chief Product Officer, HMD Global who said that the company will ditch the beta update and instead roll out the full stable version of Android 9 Pie for the Nokia 6.1. He confirmed this news while replying to a user on Twitter. However, he has not revealed when the update will be rolled out so we might have to wait for some days to get an official information from the company.
Meanwhile, the Nokia 7.1 which was launched in London recently is also set to receive the Android 9 Pie update soon. The Nokia 7.1 is a part of the Android One programme and currently runs on Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box. Notably, the Nokia 7.1 Plus had already received the Android 9 Pie update.
To recall the specifications of the Nokia 6.1, the smartphone was launched in India in April this year alongside the Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 8 Sirocco. It sports a 5.5-inch full HD+ display with a resolution of 1920 X 1080 pixels and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection on top. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 SoC coupled with 3GB/4GB RAM and 32GB/64GB of inbuilt storage space.
On the optics front, it features a 16-megapixel sensor with f/2.0 aperture on the rear panel accompanied by an LED flash. On the front, it sports an 8-megapixel sensor for taking selfies and video calling. The smartphones get its power from a 3,000mAh battery and connectivity options include 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, USB Type-C port and 3.5mm headphone jack.
