OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T Starts Receiving OxygenOS 5.1.6 Update with New Features and Bug Fixes

Chinese smartphone maker OnePlus has started rolling out a new update to its yester year’s flagship devices, OnePLus 5 and OnePlus 5T. The latest version of OxygenOS 5.1.6 is being rolled out over the air and will be downloadable on OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T. The company has also announced that the update is being rolled out in phases so it may take a few days for all the users to receive the update.

While the update does include a lot of new features and some bug fixes, the most anticipated Android 9 Pie version is still missing. The OxygenOS 5.1.6 is based on Android 8.1 Oreo so the users will have to wait for some more time to check out Android 9 Pie. Notably, OnePlus had already announced that all its flagship devices starting from OnePlus 3 onwards will receive the Android 9 Pie update.

The full changelog of the update has been listed on the official OnePlus forum and it states that the update will bring full Project Treble support to the phone via the stable software path. This will make it a lot easier to roll out Android software updates in the future. The update also brings improved Bluetooth stability for voice calls, support for 4G VoLTE connectivity for Idea subscribers in India and updates the Android security patch level to October 2018.

If you do not get a notification of the update on your OnePlus 5 or OnePlus 5T device, you can manually check for the update by heading to Settings> Software Updates. To recall, the OnePlus 5 was launched in mid-2017 while the OnePlus 5T was launched in November last year. Both the smartphones are powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 SoC coupled with up to 8GB of RAM and 128GB of inbuilt storage space. Both the devices were launched with Android Nougat out of the box and were quickly updated to Android 8.1 Oreo version.
