Google Rolls Out November Android Security Patch for Pixel and Nexus Devices

Google has started rolling out the November Android security patch for its compatible Google Pixel and Nexus devices. Alongside the patch, the update also brings some bug fixes and improvements. The major improvements and fixes include Google Assistant shortcut to the Pixel Launcher on Google Pixel 2, fixes for picture-in-picture performance and notifications stability. The Android patch for the month of November also fixes some bugs and major vulnerabilities on Pixel and Nexus devices.

Google has published the OTA zip files and factory images for the November security patch on its developer’s website. The update is compatible with all Google Pixel and Nexus devices released till date which includes, Google Pixel 3, Pixel 3 XL, Google Pixel 2, Pixel 2 XL, Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel C, Nexus 5X and Nexus 6P.

Alongside the picture-in-picture improvements, notification stability and Google Assistant shortcut on Google Pixel 2, the update also fixes the wireless charging issue of the Google Pixel 3 and Google Pixel 3 XL. Users of the two mentioned devices were facing charging issues with third-party chargers. Notably, using a third party charger was causing the devices to charge only at 5w charging speeds instead of the conventional 10w. This issue has now been fixed by the update, as reported by the folks at AndroidPolice.

As mentioned earlier, the November Android security patch brings the Google Assistant shortcut to Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. This shortcut will allow the users to launch Google Assistant quickly on their devices. Notably, the users of Google Pixel 2 and pixel 2 XL can now squeeze Active Edge to launch Google assistant apart from the conventional method of long pressing the Home button.

Users can now check for the update on their compatible Google Pixel or Nexus devices by going to Settings> System Updates. Alternatively, the users can also download and install the factory images from the Google developer’s website. However, it is recommended to take a backup of all data before proceeding with the update to prevent loss of data.
