Apple finally has a launch date for iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus

We finally have a date for the unveiling of the highly-anticipated iPhone 7, and its larger sibling, the iPhone 7 Plus. Apple has sent out media invites to select media sources for an event on September 7. Forbes reported that the mega event at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium will see the unveiling of the iPhone 7 and the iPhone 7 Plus along with the next generation Apple Watch. People can pre-order the luxury smartphone from September 9 while sales are expected to commence from September 16.

While the company has tried to keep the iPhone 7 line up tightly under wraps, users have a pretty good idea about what to expect, thanks to a host of leaked images, videos and specs that we have been treated to over the last couple of months. In terms of looks, the iPhone 7 is expected to feature big design updates compared to the last generation iPhones. The new iPhone 7 is likely to remove certain features that were seen previously, like the 3.5 mm audio jack, which is said to give way to an additional speaker. The company is also rumoured to do away with the unsightly antenna lines that used to dominate the backside of the device. Other than that, the new smartphone is expected to feature a 3D touch home button with haptic feedback. All these rumours point towards a waterproof design, something that has been heavily speculated over, thanks to a number of permit leaks that have made their way to a few sources.

The bigger variant of the iPhone 7, widely known as the Plus variant, is also rumoured to come equipped with a superior camera system, aided by its twin cameras at the back. Apple could utilise the technology of Israel-based firm LinX, which it had acquired earlier, for its camera system.

Both iPhones are expected to be powered by the A10 chipset. The iPhone 7 Plus is supposed to feature a large, 5.5-inch QHD display, while the smaller base model is expected to have a 4.7-inch full HD display.
