LG V20, the first smartphone with Android Nougat, is coming to India

It looks like the first week of September will be a big one in terms of tech launches around the world. While Apple’s long-awaited 2016 edition of the iPhone, or the iPhone 7, is probably the most anticipated launch of the year, other notable companies, like Huawei, also have exciting launches lined up throughout the beginning of the next month. But the upcoming smartphone launch from LG promises to be a special treat for Indian customers.

According to sources, LG’s upcoming flagship smartphone, the LG V20, will be launched at an event in San Francisco on September 6 this year, with the device coming to India soon after. The V20 will be the first ever non-Nexus smartphone which will run Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. It will also be the first smartphone that will come with the new Android 7.0 OS.

The LG V20 happens to be the successor of the LG V10, which was launched in October last year, but was not made available for Indian markets. However, LG India’s Managing Director, Kim Ki-Wan spoke about the plans of the company pertaining to the device, during a visit to an LG factory in Pune in an interview with NDTV: “I just few days ago made the decision to launch V20 (in the country).” He added that the company plans to bring the smartphone into the country in a month’s time.

The new LG V20 is rumoured to come with a host of impressive specifications, including a 5.7-inch display with pixel resolution of 1440 x 2560, a whopping 20 MP primary camera along with an 8 MP front shooter. Under the hood, the V20 is expected to come with a Quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC, along with Adreno 530 GPU, coupled with 6 GB RAM and 128 GB internal storage. Other storage variants may also be available. The upcoming smartphone will run Android 7.0 (Nougat) operating system out of the box, and is expected to be backed by a whopping 4,000 mAh Lithium-Ion battery.

Other leaks have hinted at the possibility of the V20 to have a modular part at the bottom, along with a module-release button. It is also expected to sport USB-Type C port and 3.5 mm audio jack. While all these are mere speculations, we will not have to wait for long to get a solid idea about the promising new smartphone.
