Blackberry DTEK60 passes through FCC Cetification; Leaked Images flaunt New Features

Blackberry is gearing up to launch its third Android smartphone soon. The upcoming smartphone, named the Blackberry DTEK60, will be the follow-up to the company’s previous Android launch, the DTEK50. While it isn’t confirmed when the DTEK60 will be making an appearance in the market, it’s perfectly safe to assume that its launch isn’t too far away given that the phone has recently passed through the FCC.

The FCC certifications provided two different model numbers for the Blackberry DTEK60, which are BBA1001 and BBA1002. These could hint at two different variants of the phone, but we do not know in respect they may differ. Not many details about the DTEK60’s features and specifications are known for certain, but the phone has been the subject of a host of leaks over the past week or so. Some of them confirm what is already speculated, as the DTEK60 is likely to feature improved specs over the DTEK50. Among some of the rumoured specifications of the Blackberry DTEK60, the smartphone is supposed to come with a larger 5.5 inch Quad HD display compared to the preceding model, with a pixel resolution of 2560 x 1440. It will very likely sport a 21-megapixel primary camera at the back with autofocus, and an 8-megapixel front camera with fixed-focus. The smartphone will be powered by a Snapdragon 820 64-bit Quad-Core processor along with an Adreno 530 GPU, coupled with 4 GB of RAM and 32 GB of internal storage expandable via microSD), with Blackberry’s custom Android skin running on top. The device will be backed by a non-removable 3000 mAh Lithium-Ion battery with Quick Charge option.

A few photos of the Blackberry DTEK60 were leaked recently on social networking platforms, showing off some additional features like the 3.5 mm headphone jack, a UBC-C port, a metal framed body, and the (now) all-important fingerprint reader housed at the back below the camera unit. According to reports, Chinese electronics company TCL Corporation has been tasked with manufacturing the upcoming smartphone from Blackberry.

The Blackberry DTEK60 is expected to be launched in November this year, though the FCC certification may hint at an earlier release. The smartphone is expected to be priced around $550 in the US, which means it will retail in India at around INR 39,000.
