Google To Launch Only Two New Pixel Phones This Year: Pixel XL2 ‘Muskie’ Discontinued

Google’s Pixel phones have a reputation of being very technologically advanced devices, although they can be extremely costly. Last year, the original Google Pixel devices hit the world and it changed it forever. Now, it seems that we will see the second generation of the Google Pixel devices as well; however, the Google Pixel XL2 may not be a part of it if the rumours are correct.

Will this how the Google Pixel XL2 look like?

Android Headlines reports that the Google Pixel XL2, which was codenamed “Muskie” is now discontinued and the likely candidate to replace it is the device codenamed “Taimen.” Sources in the Alphabet Group, which is the holding company of Google, are likely the source of the news, although rumour is more like it. The “Taimen” is the likely successor to the Pixel XL2, as it is likely to be the bigger device. The two other phones were christened internally, “Muskie” and “Walleye” of which the former is now gone.

Recently, a purported “Google Pixel XL2” with a 5.5-inch display panel and a 1.95:1 aspect ratio was listed on a benchmarking site. It seems to be slightly smaller than the original Pixel Xl as well. The “Taimen” device may be a larger device than the 5.5-inch Pixel XL, as it has an equal screen size of 5.96-inch Nexus 6. Besides, we also know that the second-generation Pixel lineup may also opt for a more conventional 16:9 image format as well.

Again, from what we have covered before, the new Google devices, including the “Google Pixel XL2” may be powered by the Qualcomm’s 10nm Snapdragon 835 system-on-chip. It will also have 4GB of RAM and will have 128GB of internal flash memory. Also expected is an 8-megapixel front camera, with a minimum of the 12-megapixel rear camera as well. The phone was last seen running Android 7.1.1 Nougat although it may eventually launch with Android O, aka Android 8.0.
