OnePlus 5 vs HTC U Ultra: When it comes to the tag of the smartphone killer, the OnePlus 5 is said to be it. With stunning display and a great set of features, this smartphone seems to have what it takes. On the other hand, the HTC U Ultra is also a great piece of engineering and also delivers great bang for the buck. Which out of the two smartphones should you buy? Let’s find out.

The Oneplus 5 boasts of a 5.5-inch 1080p Optic AMOLED display which has extra protection thanks to the Corning Gorilla Glass 5. It has a display resolution of 1920×1080 pixels and a rich display with 441 pixels per inch or PPI. The HTC U Ultra has a bigger, 5.7-inch Super LCD5 display with extra protection provided by Gorilla Glass 5 on the 64 Gb model with Sapphire Crystal protection on the 128GB model. It has a resolution of 2560×1440 pixels and a pixel density of 513 PPI. Overall, the HTC U Ultra wins this round.

This is a very important round, as many tech savvy users will consider these aspects before buying any device. The HTC U Ultra is powered by 4GB of RAM and has two variants when it comes to internal storage: 64GB and 128GB. The memory is expandable. The OnePlus 5 has two variants of RAM, 6GB, and 8GB. The 6GB variant has 64GB of internal storage while the 8GB RAM variant has 128GB of native storage. The internal memory, however, is non-expandable, which is a big drawback. Overall, the OnePlus 5 is more powerful and wins this round.

The great advantage of the OnePlus smartphone is that it runs on the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC, which is an Octa-Core CPU clocked at 2.45 GHz. This unit is paired with the Adreno 540 GPU. The HTC U Ultra, on the other hand, is powered by the now-dated Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 SoC, which is a Quad-Core CPU clocked at 2.16 GHz. The Adreno 530 GPU is seen on the device. Overall, the OnePlus 5 is a clear winner in this round.

The OnePlus 5 has dual rear cameras, one of which is a 16MP one with a f/1.7 aperture and 1/2.8-inch sensor. The other is a 20MP camera with f/2.6 aperture and 1/2.8-inch sensor. Photography tools and camera features include Optical Image Stabilization or OIS, Phase Detection Autofocus or PDAF, and Dual-LED flash. The front snapper is 16MP and has auto HDR mode.

The HTC U Ultra boasts of a single 12MP rear camera with a f/1.8 aperture, PDAF, Laser Autofocus, and a front snapper of 16MP, which also has auto HDR. Overall, the OnePlus 5 wins this round as well.

The OnePlus 5 runs on a 3,300 mAh Li-Ion battery which is non-removable. The HTC U Ultra, on the other hand, runs on the 3,000 mAh Li-Ion battery, again non-removable. While the HTC device runs on the Android Nougat 7.1.1, the OnePlus will run on the Android Nougat 7.0; both of the devices are upgradable to Android O. Once again, the OnePlus 5 wins this race.

And The Winner Is…

The OnePlus 5 is a very good device and is clearly the better device out of the two. However, the HTC U Ultra too is a very decent runner up while not being in the same league as the OnePlus 5 is. Overall, we can now state that the better buy of the two is the OnePlus 5.
