Xiaomi MIUI 9 Based on Android 7.0 Nougat to Roll Out by August 16

Chinese electronics company Xiaomi’s latest version of its user interface MIUI 9 is slated to release before August 16 this year. The news comes two weeks after the company announced that MIUI 9 is in its development stage.

The screenshots of MIUI 9 that were released on Weibo have shown off a new theme of the interface

This means that MIUI 9, which is based on Android 7.0 Nougat, will be released for select devices in just over one month from now. Screenshots of the interface have been revealed by the product manager on Chinese microblogging website Weibo. They have shown off a new theme of the interface. However, many users have mistaken the screenshots as a representation of the features. But, it has been confirmed by the company that the screenshots reflect a new theme.

Lei Jun, who serves as the CEO of Xiaomi, has stated that MIUI 9 will be more powerful and fluid than ever before. As per speculations, we can expect picture-in-picture and split-screen mode. These two features are also expected to be seen in Android O.

The most recent version of the user interface, which is MIUI 8 was released last year. It brought with itself features like Second Space, Caller ID, Dual Apps, Scrolling Screenshots, among others.

An official forum by the company has confirmed that by the end of July, the debut of MIUI closed beta testing will take place. It will be available for testing for developers and testers.

Fourteen devices are set to get the update of MIUI 9 through Nougat. Mi Note 4X, Mi Mix, Mi Note 2, Mi Note, Mi 4S, Mi 4C, Mi 5S Plus, Mi 5S, Mi5 and Mi Max will be upgraded to Android 7.0. Meanwhile, Redmi 4X, Mi 5C, Mi Max 2 and Mi 6 will get upgraded to Android 7.1 Nougat, as per Gizbot.
