Destiny 2 on Steam Rumors Dismissed by Bungie Official

After the recent set of confusions that led to speculation about Destiny and its upcoming sequel’s PC availability via Steam, Bungie officials have come forward on Twitter to clarify that Destiny 2 is not coming on the platform. The confusion began after Destiny was spotted on Steam with its currency packs up for sale, which led many to believe that Bungie may be preparing to launch Destiny on PC to add to the hype of Destiny 2.

However, Bungie community manager David Dague has clarified on Twitter that Destiny 2, as had been announced earlier, will remain a Battle.net exclusive. He further added that the Destiny listings on Steam were the result of an error and refunds would be initiated shortly by Valve. Have a look at the tweets below (via Gamespot).

The original Destiny has long been something of a dream that never materialized for PC players. There have been countless instances where we heard rumors that the game was close to being launched for PC, but three years and the announcement of a sequel later, that seems to be a past that is best left to rest. Destiny 2, on the other hand, is launching for PC on October 24, but it will be available exclusively via Blizzard’s Battle.net.

But recent happenings had lifted fans’ hopes about a possible widespread availability after the older game’s currency was spotted being up for sale on Steam. In fact, some of the curious were even successful at test-buying the currency to see if it worked. Quite obviously, this led people to quickly reach the conclusion that Activision was probably thinking about a Destiny PC version to be released alongside or after Destiny 2′s PC launch. Or at least, Destiny 2 may also be available via Steam. But Bungie has now effectively debunked that myth.

Destiny 2 is the first non-Blizzard title to be available on the Blizzard App. During the game’s May livestream event, Bizzard CEO Mike Morhaime had said: “As Destiny fans, we were excited to learn that the sequel was coming to PC. We’re pleased to support Destiny 2 as the first non-Blizzard game on our platform, and we look forward to joining fellow Guardians in their fight against the Red Legion.”

Destiny 2 will launch for consoles on September 6, while PC owners will be able to get their hands on the FPS multiplayer on October 24.
