Star Wars Battlefront 2 Could Come To Nintendo Switch, Depending On “Opportunities”

Since its release, Nintendo has claimed that the Switch has been their fastest selling console in the illustrious history of the company. Still, big AAA titles are only just making their way into the Switch, and the progress is slow. However, if all goes well, Switch owners may get yet another massive addition, if and when the time comes.

The title we are talking about here is Star Wars Battlefront 2, which is set to release on other platforms in about a month’s time. In an interview with Gamespot, which has only been published partially as of now, Motive Studios’ David Robillard was asked if he saw any potential for a Switch version of the upcoming game. Although his answer to this question hasn’t exactly been enough to spark hopes, it does not do much to douse them either.

According to Robillard, Star Wars Battlefront 2 might tread the Switch route if opportunities appear to be promising enough. “This is something we’ll explore if we see opportunities there, but it is not something that’s on the books right now,” he said. The game is currently scheduled to release on the Windows PC, PS4, and Xbox One, all of which have a much larger footprint than the Nintendo Switch.

However, despite its slow beginnings (thanks to the lack of notable launch titles), the Switch has won favor worldwide because of its hybrid system. There are some drawbacks, though, the most prominent one being that it is incapable of producing the kind of graphics that some of the biggest titles demand. For instance, EA brought FIFA 18 on the Nintendo Switch, but the custom engine couldn’t match up to the versions developed on Frostbite. Instead, fans were encouraged to see the regular version and the Switch version as two separate games.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 launches on November 17, 2017. If a Switch version is to happen, it won’t come at least until 2018.
