Samsung, expanding its wearable lineup in India, has launched the Gear Fit 2 Pro and Gear Sport devices in the Indian markets via a press event held in Gurugram. These new devices were initially announced at the IFA Berlin back in the month of August. While the Samsung Gear Fit2 Pro comes with a price tag of Rs. 13,590, the Gear Sport will be available at Rs. 22,990. Both the devices will go on sale in December and will be available in two different color variants- Black and Red.
In a press statement, Aditya Babbar, the general manager of Samsung India, stated, “With the launch of Gear Sport and Gear Fit2 Pro, we continue to build on our wearables heritage of offering diverse choices to enhance consumers’ unique lifestyles. We have introduced new smart capabilities, easy-to-use features and partnered with leading names in tech and fitness to help consumers go beyond fitness and live an active, balanced, and fulfilling life.”
Talking about the Samsung Gear Fit2 Pro, it sports a 1.5-inch Super AMOLED display with a screen resolution of 216×432 pixels. The display has been claimed to double up as an “effective secondary screen” in order to let fans view activity statistics, maps archives and so on, reports NDTV Gadget360. This smart fitness band also offers real-time updates as well as notifications.
On contrary, the Gear Fit2 Pro sports a circular 1.2-inch Super AMOLED display and supports 360×360 pixels resolution. According to the company, the Gear Sport due to its 5 ATM certification, reportedly is “safe to wear while walking in the rain or showering, and may be used for shallow-water activities like swimming in a pool or the ocean. However, the Gear Sport should not be used for scuba diving, waterskiing, or other activities involving high-velocity water or submersion below shallow depth.”
The company has offered heart rate sensors, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi connectivity options on both its Gear Fit2 Pro and Gear Sport models. For better tracking, there’s also an additional built-in GPS. These mid-range devices come with Tizen OS and other features auto activity detection to recognize activities such as running, cycling, walking, and more. Samsung has partnered with Speedo and Under Armour just to include support for Under Armour Record, MapMyRun, Endomondo apps, and MyFitnessPal. The company also showcased IconX earbuds to take on Apple’s AirPods at IFA 2017 which were unveiled along with Galaxy Note 7 and was priced at Rs. 13,490.
