Xiaomi Mi A1 Devices Get a Taste of Android 8.0 Oreo Beta

There is some very good news for Xiaomi smartphone users. The recently launched Xiaomi Mi A1 has now been updated to receive the Android 8.0 Oreo Beta. We had recently covered the same device when it had received a permanent price cut and was being available for as low as Rs 13,999. The Oreo arrival means that even budget devices will now be looked after by Google.

Xiaomi, which is a Chinese manufacturer and one of the biggest smartphone brands in the world currently, had been posting teasers o beta version of the OS coming to the Xiaomi Mi A1. Incidentally, when the phone was first spotted on Geekbench, it was seen running on the Android 7.1.2. This news was first made public via the official MIUI forum, where MIUI is the customized OS of the Xiaomi devices which are based on the Android OS.

Note that before the update was actually rolled out, Xioami had promised its users that its phones would soon receive the update. In fact, both the Android Oreo and the Android P updates have been promised. Notably, some days ago, Xiaomi had selected (randomly or not, we are not sure) a few active users of Mi A1 who were eligible to receive and test the update.

Those who will upgrade to the Android 8.0 Beta will receive a slew of additional features including, but not limited to, Picture-in-Picture (PIP) mode, Adaptive icons and a few WebView enhancements, certain Background limits, and Snoozing individual notifications. In fact, it will be a lot more help to the users when they use this update.

The total size of the Android 8.0 Oreo Beta version that has now been rolled out for the Xiaomi Mi A1 measures 1.1GB in size. Included in the update is the December security patch. Once the update is declared free of bugs and issues, the stable version of the Oreo update will be rolled out to all users in the coming weeks.
