New Limited Edition Version of Samsung Galaxy Note 8 Unveiled With Shiny White Rear Panel

The South Korean tech giant, Samsung,  has unveiled a new limited edition version of the Galaxy Note 8, but it is not available for sale.  The phablet has been designed exclusively for the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics participants. The specialty of the phone is the shiny white back panel which reportedly symbolizes snow and winter. It is also covered with a gold Olympics logo and gold rings, which is inspired by the Olympic Torch.

Although, the internal specs of the phone remain unchanged, except for the pre-loaded PyeongChang Winter Olympics themed wallpapers. It is reported that 4000 of these devices will be distributed among the athletes and staff members before the official opening of the Olympics early next month. All the Paralympic athletes will also get Olympic themed cases for their new phones from Samsung.

“Throughout our 20-year legacy as an Olympic partner, Samsung has showcased our support of the Olympic Movement by helping spread the Olympic Spirit and enhance connections through our latest technological innovations and immersive experiences,” was quoted as saying by Younghee Lee, CMO, and Executive Vice President, Samsung Electronics.

It is not likely that this limited edition phone would be made available for sale for the general public by Samsung. The 2016 Summer Olympics themed Galaxy S7 Edge, however, was made available for sale to the general public but the company didn’t get much success with it.

To recall, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 features a 6.3-inch QHD+ super AMOLED display screen with an aspect ratio of 18.5:9. A Snapdragon 835 SoC or an Exynos 8895 SoC powers the phone, which is backed up by 6GB RAM and 64GB/128GB or 256GB internal storage options.

Coming to the camera section, it features a rear dual camera module of 12MP each along with an LED flash. There is also a 5MP front facing camera with wide angle lens for selfies and video calling.

It also features an iris scanner, fingerprint sensor with support for 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC and USB type C charging port with fast charging feature. It is powered by a 3300 mAh battery and wireless charging.
