Oppo A83 with Face Unlock Feature and 18:9 Display Launched in India

Oppo announced the launch of a new smartphone in India, today.  It is dubbed as Oppo A83 and we are already aware of its features as it was first launched in China in December last year. The best features of this phone are the 18:9 aspect ratio full HD screen and the face unlock feature, with the company claiming that face recognition could be as fast as 0.18s only.

The company, however, has ditched the fingerprint scanner that has become a common feature among the new generation smart devices. It has instead brought in the face recognition feature like in the new Apple iPhone 8 and iPhone X. The face recognition feature instead will help the users to unlock their phone and prevent misusage of personal data by unauthorized persons.

The new Oppo A83

The Oppo A83 comes with a full-screen design with minimum bezels. Just like other smartphones of these days, it features an aspect ratio of 18:9. It has a 5.7-inch IPS LCD display screen with full HD support and resolution of 1,440 X 720 pixels. The display also supports multi-touch functionality.

The Oppo A83 is powered by a MediaTek Helio P23 octa-core processor, clocked at 2.5Ghz. It is backed by 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, which can be further expanded to 128GB with the help of micro-SD card. A decent 3,180 mAh battery fuels the device.

Talking about the camera, the Oppo A83 features a 13MP rear-facing camera with LED flash, autofocus, and full HD recording capability. It also features a 5MP front-facing camera for taking selfies and video calling. The front camera is also equipped with facial recognition feature to unlock the device.

The Oppo A83 runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat version out of the box with Oppo’s inbuilt Color OS 3.2 on top. We are not certain when the device would receive the Android Oreo update.

The phone supports 4G VoLTE and has other features like Wi-Fi 802.1 ac, Bluetooth 4.2, USB type-C charging port, GPS and dual-SIM support. It is also equipped with ambient light, proximity and gravity sensors.

The phone comes with a price tag of Rs 13,990 and would be available for purchase from January 20, 2018, onwards.
