LG G6 Starts Receiving Android 8.0 Oreo Update from Today

LG, the South Korean tech giant has started to roll out the Android 8.0 Oreo update to the LG G6 flagship device that was launched last year. The announcement was made a couple of days ago in an official blog post. In addition, the LG G5 and the LG V20 are also scheduled to receive the latest Android 8.0 update soon but the date of the roll out has not been revealed yet.

As per a blog post by LG, the latest update can be downloaded and installed over the air (OTA) and users can also use LG Bridge program on their PCs to install the update on the phone. The new update is set to bring improvements to the battery life, graphics, improved overall speed and screen configurations.

Apart from these, the Android 8.0 update also brings a host of new features like Picture-in-Picture mode, notification dots, smart autofill, enhanced settings menu along with a much-improved battery life since it can stop apps from running idle in the background.

“We will continue to provide stable and continuous after-sales services such as upgrading the OS and adding new functions to existing products. LG Smartphones can be trusted by customers [and] I will try to make steady efforts,” Lee Seok-Su, CEO of Software Upgrade Center at LG Electronics said in a statement.

To recall the specifications of the LG G6 smartphone, it comes with a 5.7-inch QHD+ FullVision display with a resolution of 1440 X 2880 pixels and 18:9 aspect ratio. It also comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection on top. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 SoC coupled with 4GB of RAM and two internal storage variants of 32GB and 64GB.

On the camera front, the LG G6 comes with a dual rear camera setup with two 13-megapixel cameras along with LED flash. On the front, it sports a 5-megapixel camera for selfies and video calling.
