First Generation Apple Watch will not Receive watchOS 5 Update

Cupertino based conglomerate Apple announced watchOS 5 at the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2018, currently being held in San Jose, California. It is the latest operating system for the Apple Watch lineup of wearables from the company. The update comes with a host of new features like interactive notifications, Walkie-Talkie style of communication, smarter Siri and more. The company also confirmed that the latest update will be available for Apple Watch series 1 and upwards. This means the original Apple watch will not get the latest update.

Apple watchOS 5 announced at WWDC 2018

To recall, Apple had launched the first generation Apple watch in 2015. This means users who still use the first generation Apple Watch had software support from Apple for a little more than 3 years. It is the same for the users who bought the variants of the device costing between $10,000 and $17,000. To recall, Apple had launched a $17,000 Apple Watch variant that came with a case that was made up of 18-karat Rose Gold along with a Sapphire display screen and a magnetic charging case. It is a bit disheartening to see that Apple will no longer provide the latest software update to the device.

Apple has also officially confirmed the same and said that the watchOS 5 update will be available for its wearables starting from Apple watch series 1 onwards.  Users who wish to check out the new features will have to upgrade the software to the latest version.

Meanwhile, users will also get the option to continue with Apple watchOS version 4 if they wish. However, the watchOS 5 update is set to bring some more features when it is officially launched so users may be tempted to upgrade the software to the latest version to make the most of these new features. Apple watchOS is likely to get unveiled at the end of the third quarter of the year. Apple has also confirmed that the software will come for free and the users will get a notification to update their devices when it is rolled out.
