HMD Global, the licensee of Nokia devices has started rolling out the Android Security patch for the month of November to its flagship Nokia 8, Nokia 6 and Nokia 5 devices in India. Notably, the Finnish company is well known for rolling out timely software updates to its range of devices and it had also promised that it would provide software support for two years to all its devices.
In order to deliver on that promise, the company has started rolling out the November Android security patch for the Nokia 8, Nokia 6 and Nokia 5. The update is being rolled out only in select countries as of now with India being one of them. The company is expected to make the update available in other countries in the coming months.
Users of the Nokia 8, Nokia 6 and Nokia 5 can now manually check for the update by heading to Settings> System Updates. If it is available, they can download and install the same immediately. However, before beginning the update procedure, it is recommended to connect the device to a stable WiFi connection and should also ensure that the device has a minimum charge level of 50%.
As the update only contains the Android Security patch of November, it is not too heavy. The update for Nokia 5 weighs at 103.3MB while for the Nokia 6 and Nokia 8 it is 109.9MB and 161.8MB respectively.
When it comes to rolling out timely updates, HMD Global has been pretty consistent. Last year, the company had announced that it would provide timely updates to all its devices for a period of 2 years from the official release date. To deliver on that promise, HMD Global announced this year that it would roll out Android 9 Pie update to all its devices released last year. It may be recalled that the Nokia 6.1 Plus has already received the update and the others are expected to receive the same by the end of this year.
