The Moto X 2017 has seemingly been revealed in a number of new renders as well as a 360-degree video based on factory Compute Aided Design (CAD) leaks. The new phone by Motorola is very similar to the Moto Z in form and design but is being set up as a revival of the once-famous Moto X family. This new phone boasts of decent specs and a very thin body. There are chances of a launch at the Consumer Electronics Fair in the first week of January.
Moto X 2017 Specs and Features
Like we mentioned before, the new Moto X 2017 has gone ahead with two features which are gradually being dropped by other manufacturers. One, Lenovo, which owns Motorola, has retained the 3.5mm headphone jack as other big brands look forward to ditching it. Two, the USB Type-C port is not a part of the phone’s architecture.
Apart from these two points, the Moto X 2017 looks fairly promising. The new phone will be a tad smaller than either of the two Moto Z variants but will sport a 5.2-inch display in place of the bigger cousin’s 5.5-inch one. This report states that while the large camera bump on the back will continue to exist, the specs show the device is much thicker than both the Moto Z and Moto Z Force. The moto X 2017 has dimensions measuring 150 x 73.8 x 8.4 mm (9.5 mm with camera bump) indicating a bigger battery inside for all-day use. The Moto Z is just 5.2 mm thick and the Moto Z Force is only around 7 mm. The new phone has no fancy dual camera setup and does not have any stereo front-facing speakers. Lenovo will look to improve on this area.
The back panel is slightly curved to provide a distinct appearance. A rectangular fingerprint scanner is seen on the front and a microSD card is seen on the top-left edge of the Moto X 2017. Side bezels remain. 2.5D tempered glass on the screen is also absent.
The Moto X 2017 essentially looks like a mid-sized Moto Z for al intents and purposes. We expect the Moto X to be slightly less priced than its bigger cousin. While the Moto X 2017 is set to be unveiled at the CES 2017, a Mobile World Congress launch also seems likely as more work is needed to make this phone a genre-defining one. We do warn readers that leaks often turn out to be complete fabrications and this news should be taken with a pinch of salt.
