Android P Beta 4 (Developer Preview 5) Now Available for Google Pixel Devices

The final beta preview of Android P, which is the next iteration after Android Oreo has been released by Google. Called Android P Beta 4 or Developer Preview 5, the update is exclusively available to Google Pixel devices at the moment and it is also the last beta preview before the stable public version of Android P is released. Google has apparently provided everything that developers need to test their apps before the public version is released. Just like the earlier developer beta version, the Android P Beta 4 is available only to those users who have enrolled for the Android Beta program. The update will be available over the air (OTA) shortly.

“Beta 4 is the last preview milestone before we launch the official Android P platform later this summer. Take this opportunity to test your apps and publish updates, to make sure you offer a great experience to users transitioning to Android P!”, said Dave Burke, VP of Engineering, Android division, in a blog post while announcing the availability of the latest beta update.

Google has provided Android P APIs (API level 28), Google Play Services version 12.4.46 and the Android Security patch for the month of July 2018 in the Android P Beta 4 update. You may also take a look at the release notes for the Android P Beta 4 at the Android Developer’s site.

Android P Beta 4 or Developers Preview 5 is currently available only for Google Pixel devices which include Pixel, Pixel XL, Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 XL. Users who have enrolled for the Android Beta program and have received the Android P Beta 3 or Developers Preview 4 previously will automatically receive the update. Users who have not enrolled for the Android Beta program till now will have to register first on the official site to receive the update via OTA. It is recommended to install this update in a secondary device as it may come with some serious bug which can hamper the usability of your device.
