Riding on the success of the two new flagships, Mi Note 2 and the nearly edge-to-edge designed Mi Mix, Xiaomi is all set to launch another high-end smartphone dubbed as Mi Mix 2, at the end of this year. The Mi Mix 2 is believed to be the successor of the Mi Mix and as the release date of the device looks more imminent, new leaks and renders regarding the handset started flooding the web world.
The latest leak, a screenshot of the upcoming Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 indicates that the smartphone is going to sport a 3D facial recognition technology rather than fingerprint scanner as the authentication measure. Although the screenshot failed to reveal more about the working procedure of this security measure, it is clear that Xiaomi is slowly shifting towards the other means of biometrical authentication. Having said that, there is always question remains on the authenticity of the 3D facial recognition technology as it is believed as one of the least secured measures to protect your handset from intrusion. Thus, not many contemporary smartphones come with this technology.
On the other hand, the previous leaks on this much-anticipated handset indicate, that the phablet is going to sport a mammoth-sized 6.4-inch AMOLED Quad HD display with 2K pixel resolution (2540 x 1440 pixels). On the optics front, the device is believed to flaunt 12-megapixel sensor at the back and a 5-megapixel snapper at the front. Moreover, it is believed that the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 will come in two different variants depending on their memory capacity. The more premium version is pegged to come with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of phone memory, where as the basic model is believed to be packed with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of native space.
As per the Geekbench listing, the Mi Mix 2 is going to be powered by 1.9 GHz Snapdragon 835 octa-core SoC coupled with Adreno 540 GPU and will run on Android 7.1.1 Nougat with the company’s very own MIUI 9 OS running top of it. The handset is believed to be backed by a 4,500mAh battery.
Much like the Mi Mix, the main USP of the Mi Mix 2 also lies in its design. Earlier, the CEO of Xiaomi, Lei Jun posted a screenshot on Weibo which indicates that Mi Mix 2 will come with an incredible 18:9 aspect ratio. Today, the famous designer Philippe Starck, who is currently working on Mi Mix 2 posted a concept video of the handset on Facebook which reveals the device is going to sport three-sided bezel-less display and the bottom bezel is also much thinner compared to the Mi Mix.
The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 is expected to make its debut in late October or early November under the code name ‘Chiron’ and tipped to price at 3,999 yuan ($599).
