Idea Launches Rs 249 Prepaid Plan to Take on Reliance Jio and Airtel

To take on Mukesh Ambani owned Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel, Idea Cellular has introduced a new prepaid plan of Rs 249 for the customers. The new plan offers 2GB of 3G or 4G data per day depending on the availability of 4G or 3G in the area. In addition, it also offers unlimited local, STD and roaming calls to any network in India and 100 SMS messages per day with a total validity of 28 days. It means the users will get 56GB of data over a 28 day period. This new plan has been launched to take on the Rs 249 plan of Airtel that also currently offers 2GB of data per day.

The Airtel plan offers unlimited voice calls to any network without a daily or monthly FUP (Fair Usage Policy) attached to it. The Idea Rs 249 plan, however, comes with a FUP policy. It comes with a daily cap of 250 minutes and a weekly cap of 1000 minutes. The pack is available to select users at the present time and is likely to be rolled out on a broader scale soon.

Idea currently also has a Rs 357 prepaid plan offering similar benefits like the Rs 249 plan. It also offers 2GB of data per day with unlimited calls and 100 SMS with a validity of 28 days. This plan is likely to get canceled once the Rs 249 plan is rolled out on a wider scale in all the circles.

Reliance Jio also offers a similar plan like Idea’s Rs 249 plan but it comes with a much lower price tag of Rs 198. Jio also offers 2GB of 4G data per day with unlimited voice calls and 100 SMS messages per day with a validity of 28 days. A major disadvantage of the Idea plan is the presence of FUP on a daily and weekly basis. The Reliance Jio and Airtel plan on the other hand does not come with FUP and the users can enjoy unlimited voice calling facility without any bounds.
