Microsoft Reported to be Working on Android-Powered Smartphones

After discontinuing the Lumia range of handsets due to poor sales, Microsoft has not announced the rollout of any new smartphones in the last few months. While many rumors have been doing the rounds regarding new launches from the company, Microsoft is yet to officially confirm any of them. Now as per a report, Microsoft is reportedly working on a new range of Android smartphones that may be launched soon.

Since the company has decided to end support for Windows-powered smartphones soon, the new report makes a lot of sense. However, the Android devices are not going to be a part of the Lumia range of devices for sure as the series has been discontinued already. But, right now, not much information is available about the launch strategy of Microsoft regarding the Android-powered devices. We are expecting more news to surface in the coming days.

As per a report by Windows Latest, a Microsoft representative has claimed that the company is actively working on a new lineup of phones. Also the screenshots of a text conversation tips that the new range of devices will not be a part of the Lumia lineup.  Another key information revealed by the report is that the new range of Android-powered devices will be sold from Microsoft stores.

The screenshots shared in the report shows that engineers of Windows Phone are working on the new range of Android-powered handsets. However, the representative did not reveal much information about the specifications or the type of model that the company has plans to release. However, he did reveal that the new lineup will not be running on Windows 10.

While the report of an Android-powered handset from Microsoft makes sense, it should be taken with a pinch of salt as there is no official confirmation of the same from Microsoft as of now.  Earlier reports had also claimed that Microsoft has a new Surface project codenamed ‘Libra’. Also, another Surface device codenamed ‘Andromeda’ is reportedly in works and may see the light of the day by the end of this year.
