Skype has rolled out a new update for its Android, iOS, and desktop version of its app to bring the Read Receipts feature. This feature is already available on some popular chat applications like WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and iMessage among others and now Skype has also rolled out this feature. This will enable the users of Skype to know whether the recipient has read the message after receiving it or not. The feature will stay disabled by default when the user is invisible.
The feature has been rolled out with a preview build number 8.26.76 for Android, iOS and desktop version of the app. This update will work for all users using smartphones running on Android 6.0 or iOS 10 and higher. The feature is currently in the review stage and once it has been tested properly by Microsoft, it will be rolled out to all the users globally in a stable update. The date of the rollout will be notified later.
The Read Receipts feature of Skype will allow the users to see whether the recipient has read a particular message. All the recipients who have read your message will appear in a bubble with their avatars inside enabling you to see how many of them have read your message without having to open each conversation separately.
“The feature is available in 1:1 conversations and group chats with 20 or fewer people. This feature is available just for Insiders, so you can test it with your contacts who are also on the latest Insider build,” Microsoft has posted on its official forum.
Users can also disable this feature if they wish. For that, they can head to Settings> Privacy. However, this will imply that you will not be able to see others read receipts as well. Also in the invisible mode, the Read Receipts function will stay disabled by default.
