Android Messages update that brings Google’s Material Theme and a Dark Mode is being rolled out again. To recall, the update with version number 3.5 was rolled out earlier this month but it was rolled back by Google just a few days ago due to unknown reasons. That update brought a Dark Mode and Google’s Material Theme alongside a Smart Reply feature that was first rolled out to Gmail in 2015.
As spotted by the folks at AndroidPolice, an updated Android Messages app with version number 3.5.052 has been rolled out that brings all the features rolled out earlier in the update with version number 3.5. The updated app is now available for download on Google Play. In order to check out the new features, AndroidPolice states that you need to run the app once and then force close it by going to the app info page from the Settings menu.
Talking of the other features, the updated Android Messages app comes with a bunch of Material Theme elements that show a white background with Google Sans font. The updated app also replaces the ‘+’ icon with a larger button that displays the ‘Start Chat’ icon by default.
The updated app also includes a Dark Mode that will enable the users to read and type text messages comfortably at night or under low light conditions. The Dark Mode once enabled changes the font color from black to white and the background from white to black. Apart from that, the messages that you send to a recipient is shown in a blue bubble with a dark blue font.
You can enable Dark Mode on the updated Android Messages app by tapping the three-dot menu key available at the top right corner of the screen and then select Enable Dark Mode option. You can disable this mode by following the same procedure.
