Android Messages has received a major update that brings on board a number of new features like a dark mode, revamped user interface and a smart reply option. The update also includes Google’s Material Theme elements and Google Sans font. The new interface reportedly matches the design of Samsung’s message app that comes with an all white background. Apart from these features, Google has also implemented the Smart Reply option which was first rolled out to Gmail back in 2015.
Talking about the new features, the new update brings a dark mode that will enable the users to completely transform the background from White to Black and the fonts from Black to White. This new feature will enable users to use the messages app in low light conditions or in completely dark rooms more effectively. However, as noted by the folks at AndroidPolice the app shows inverted colors in conversations once the dark mode is enabled. But the messages sent by the user always show up in a light blue bubble along with a darker blue font.
Users can enable dark mode from the updated Android Messages app by tapping on the three-dot menu key on the top right corner of the screen and then select the Enable Dark Mode option. In order to switch back to the normal mode, the users should use the same procedure.
Apart from the Dark Mode, the update also brings a new interface with a Material Theme that adds a completely white background with Google Sans font.
The updated app also includes a new Smart Reply option that can be enabled from the settings menu. The feature uses the recent messages received or sent to provide suggestions. However, Google has made it clear that it does not store any messages to provide suggestions to the users.
The updated Android Messages app is now being rolled out on Google Play and should be available for download on all Android devices in the coming days.
