The year 2017 has already seen a number of smartphones getting launched, and we are yet to reach the second half of the year. Most of the smartphones that have been launched are yet to be available on the market. But before they are being put on sale we take a look at two of the most-talked about smartphones from the South Korean tech giants Samsung and LG. with the launch of G6, LG is looking forward to making a name for itself while with the S8, Samsung is attempting to take innovation to another level. And we are here with a comparative study of Samsung Galaxy S8 and LG G6. It will be really interesting to find out which is one better than the other.
Samsung Galaxy S8 vs LG G6: Design and Display
Very few smartphone developers can match the design of the Samsung smartphones and S8 being the flagship device is expected to be one of the better smartphones that Samsung has ever produced. LG, on the other hand, has given up the modular design and has settled with a more conventional metal unibody design in G6 which makes it look very much like any other smartphone. The rounded edges, the great finish and the sleek look definitely ranks Galaxy S8 ahead of LG G6. But that doesn’t mean LG G6 is not impressive. Definitely, it has become much better with the all-screen display. However, Samsung gets the thumbs up in this section for the premium looks.
The dimension of the screen is also something that both the developers have invested a lot. Samsung Galaxy S8 comes with a 5.8-inch screen while the one LG has got a 5.7-inch screen. Both the smartphones have given up the physical ‘Home’ button, and it is going to be really difficult to determine any difference between these two smartphones’ display.
Processor and Storage
Samsung Galaxy S8 comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor under the hood, while the LG G6 runs on Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor. This is something that all the tech enthusiasts would have liked to see something better. And Samsung Galaxy S8 definitely ranks ahead of LG G6 in this section.
However, both the smartphones come with 4 GB Ram. This is quite strange why Samsung hasn’t gone for a better RAM in their latest flagship. And it will be something that will be interesting to watch out. This is because Samsung Galaxy S8 with such power-packed features running on 4 GB RAM sounds really interesting. On the other hand, despite running on a Qualcomm Snapdragon, 821 processor comes with a 4 GB RAM. So we can come to a conclusion that both the smartphones are at par as far as the RAM is concerned and that too, even after LG G6 sporting a less-efficient yet highly effective processor under the hood.
But once again, Samsung Galaxy S8 takes the lead when it comes to the internal storage. 64 GB internal storage in Galaxy S8 sounds much better than 32 GB in S7. Quite naturally the 32 GB internal storage in LG G6 ranks at a lower spot than Galaxy S8.
Both smartphones run on an Android 7.0 Nougat operating system.
Camera
Samsung Galaxy S8 comes with a 12-megapixel lens on the back assisted by f/1.7 aperture and Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS). The front camera sports an 8-megapixel lens with f/1.7 aperture and Autofocus technology. On the other hand, LG G6 comes with a dual-lens setup on the back. A couple of 13-megapixel sensors, each one assisted by f/1.8 and f/2.4 aperture respectively along with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) form the rear camera setup. The selfie shooter is 5 megapixels, which is also equipped with f/2.4 aperture. On paper, this is a close battle, and it will be really difficult to come to a conclusion before having a hands-on experience of the smartphone. Therefore, this round, somewhat, ends in a tie.
Battery
LG G6 is backed up by a 3,300 mAh battery while S8 comes with 3,000 mAh battery. But the processor in Samsung Galaxy S8 makes it much more durable as far as the battery is concerned. So here as well, the latest flagship handset from Samsung edges past its LG counterpart marginally.
Add-ons
The additional features of both the smartphones are something that hangs in the balance. Almost everything is similar, only that Samsung Galaxy S8 comes with an additional Iris scanner which is lacking in LG G6. Both the smartphones come with wireless charging facility as well (although only the US model of LG G6 facilitates the users of this feature). An IP68 certification makes both LG G6 and Galaxy S8 dustproof as well as waterproof.
Final Words
There is very little to choose from these two flagship devices from two of the world’s most popular smartphone developers. On many occasions, LG G6 has given S8 a close fight, and that’s encouraging for the LG fans as well as the developers. But in the end, it’s Samsung Galaxy S8 who triumphs over LG G6 and wins the South Korean battle for supremacy.
