The HTC U11, the “squeezable” smartphone from the Taiwanese company, is getting its India launch today. The new smartphone was launched in May this year in the company’s home country, and it was reported afterwards that it would eventually make its way into a number of countries. Earlier rumors had stated that the HTC U11 was already India-bound, but nothing was confirmed. However, a listing on the company‘s India website is hard to ignore.
The HTC U11 will be launched in India today at an event in the capital. The company had sent out press invites for the same earlier this week. The smartphone was launched in the US at the price of $749 (INR 48,500 approx), and at EUR 749 (INR 54,000 approx) in Europe. Today’s Delhi event will shed light on the U11’s pricing information along with availability. It is unclear at the moment if Indian markets will get both existing variants of the smartphone, although a recent rumor suggests that the company will launch the 6GB variant in the country.
What makes the HTC U11 stand apart is the Edge Sense feature which lets the user access a number of convenient functions just by sqeezing the side edges of the smartphone. The feature can be customized to suit the user’s preferences, and the gesture includes both short and long holds for added benefit.
To speak of the HTC U11 smartphone’s specifications, the device packs in a 5.5-inch QHD display with a pixel resolution of 1440×2560 and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection. It is powered by a Quad-core Snapdragon 835 processor clocked at 2.45GHz, coupled with 4GB/ 6GB RAM. The 4GB version comes with 64GB of base storage, while the 6GB variant is paired with 128GB of internal storage. Both are expandable up to 2TB via microSD card.
In the camera department, the HTC U11 smartphone comes with a 12 MP primary unit at the back along with a 16 MP one in front. It is backed by a 3,000mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0, and will run Android 7.1 Nougat with the HTC Sense skin on top.
