We have some bad news for users of the Huawei Honor 8. Neither the Honor 8 nor the Honor 8 Pro will receive the Android 8.0 Oreo update. The Huawei Honor 8 Pro was originally launched with the Android Nougat 7.0 onboard. Recently, we had reported how the Honor 8 Pro had started receiving the Android 8.0 Oreo update.
It now seems that neither the Honor 8 nor the Honor 8 Pro will receive this update. To put this in perspective, we must go to what the company has stated via its official Twitter account. Take a look at what a user had to say about the Honor 8. When asked why the Oreo update or the MIUI 8.0 had come to the Honor 8 device, the company responded stating that “hardware and software limitations” would prevent the Honor 8 from receiving the new and latest update.
However, the company did not specify what these limitations were. Also, many users wondered aloud why it was that despite having promised the OS upgrade later this year. Now, it seems that even the most entry-level phones like the Nokia 2, which is very elementary when compared to the Honor 8. In fact, this is the same question which many Honor users also have.
Honor, owned by Huawei, was not forthcoming with any answers on this issue. They only had a few scripted answers which have been disappointing to many users, we have been informed.
Nokia aficionados may ask us why we believe that the Nokia 2 is decidedly entry-level. Well, the Honor 8 specs and features speak for themselves. The Honor 8 boasts a 5.2-inch full HD (with 1920 x 1080 pixels) and a 2.5D curved glass display. Of special repute is the 2.3GHz octa-core Kirin 950 processor which is found under the hood. It is ably backed by the Mali T880-MP4 GPU and a decent 4GB RAM. Besides, it also has 32GB of internal storage which can be expanded to 128GB micro SD card. A 3,000 mAh battery is also present onboard.
