Huawei is hosting an event in Germany on November 3 where it will be launching the new Huawei Mate 9 (codename Manhattan). But a leak now suggests that there will be a ‘Pro’ variant that will sport a curved display.
In comparison, the Mate 9 is expected to feature a full HD (1920×1080 pixels) display. The reason for the bump in resolution is because the Pro variant will support Google’s Daydream VR, and it makes a lot of sense since a 1080p resolution stretched on a 6-inch display would mar the overall virtual reality experience.
The Mate 9 Pro is powered by Huawei’s HiSilicon Kirin 960 processor with 4GB RAM and 64GB/128GB/256GB internal storage options while the smaller Mate 9 comes with Kirin 960 octa-core processor with 4GB RAM.
On the software front, both the Mate 9 and the Mate 9 Pro is expected to run on Android Nougat 7.0 out-of-the-box wrapped under Emotion UI 5.0.
Leaked images have shown that both the phones will come with dual-camera setup by Leica, which we assume will be very much like Huawei’s P9 smartphone. The company, however, has bumped the megapixels on Mate 9 phones to 20-megapixel. The setup consists of a Monochrome and an RGB sensor. Along with the Picture Quality Algorithm developed by both Huawei and Leica, one sensor calculates the colour information, while the other picks up light. The result is a photo that has relatively better colours, details and sharpness, even in low light conditions.
