As we predicted in an earlier report, Canada based smartphone super giants, BlackBerry has launched their first Android based handset, BlackBerry Priv , in India on Thursday,28th January and the company set the price for this device at Rs.62,990. The all new BlackBerry Priv will be available for sale from the upcoming Saturday, 30th January via Amazon India and other offline retail stores. Priv is the first Android smartphone made by BlackBerry and the phone has been launched in US and Canada, last October.

The brand new BlackBerry Priv sports a 5.4-inch QHD Amoled display with a resolution of 1440×2560 pixels and a pixel density of 540 PPI. The phone also supports the “Glove Mode”, that means one can touch and operate the screen wearing a glove on their hands.

The BlackBerry Priv is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 hexa-core processor (1.8GHz dual-core Cortex-A57, and 1.44GHz quad-core Cortex-A53) under the hood, coupled with a 3GB of RAM and Adreno 418 GPU. The phone also comes with a 32 GB of internal storage and offers expendable storage capacity up to 2TB via a hot-swappable microSD expansion slot. As we said above, the phone runs on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop OS but also features some add-ons such as on demand widget and gestures.

On the camera front, BlackBerry Priv features an 18 Mega Pixel Primary camera at the rear end of the phone accompanied with dual-LED Flash and features like PDAF, Optical Image Stabilization (OIS) and 4K video recording. Not only that, there is a secondary front facing 2 mega pixel camera also included in the phone which is capable of recording HD videoes.

If we talk about the connectivity aspects of the BlackBerry Priv, the phone supports 4G LTE (with the support for India’s FDD-LTE Band 3), Bluetooth 4.1, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac with Direct functionality, 3.5mm audio jack, Micro-USB, NFC, and GPS/ A-GPS. This latest flagship from the house of BlackBerry comes with all the modern day sensor options such as magnetometer, accelerometer, gyroscope, time of flight (ToF) sensor, ambient light sensor, proximity sensor, altimeter, and activity monitor. The handset is backed by a whooping 3410mAh battery which can as per the company claims deliver up to 22.5 hours of battery backup for the ‘mixed usage’. The phone is available in only one color variant:Black.

The latest flagship of the Canadian smartphone makers, Priv comes with an extra layer of security measures as the phone features the BlackBerry DTEK, which scans every single app and the seek permissions from the user before installing. Also, the handset does not allow the users to install any third party launchers or apps from unverified sources.

Another notable feature of the brand new BlackBerry Priv is that the phone flaunts a slide out keyboard and provides good keypad support for those who don’t love or feels comfortable typing on a touchscreen.
