The Sony Xperia XZ and the Xperia X Performance, the latter of which has never released in India, are the next in line to receive the Android Nougat 7.1.1 update. This update will make these two devices the top-of-the-line devices in Sony’s handset range. Incidentally, both these smartphones were the first to receive the Nougat 7 update as well. Sony thus becomes among the first of the Android OEMs to receive the update, with Google’s own products, the Pixel, and Nexus devices, having already received the update in December last year.
This new Android 7.1.1 Nougat update will bring a lot of new features to Sony’s fold. Expect new emoji support, app shortcuts, as well as the Android April security patch. This information comes directly from the Xperia Blogs, which also stated that there are possibilities that the new update may not well efficiently with the Xperia Home launcher. The problems lie in the app shortcuts feature.
One of the many new smartphones to feature the Android 7.1.1 Nougat update, the Sony Xperia XZ, and the Xperia X Performance thus become the first of Sony’s phones to come with the update. The update, until now, as limited to the Google Pixel and the Google Nexus range of smartphones. The update build number for the firmware update is 41.2.A.2.199.
The Sony Xperia XZ and the Xperia X Performance are both water and dust resistant. The Xperia XZ was unveiled at the IFA 2016 and is a splendid performer. This smartphone has a 5.2-inch full-HD (with a resolution of 1080×1920 pixels) display with protection featured by Corning Gorilla Glass 4. This device is powered by a Snapdragon 820 SoC which in turn is mated to 3GB of RAM. It also features USB Type-C connectivity and is powered by a 2900mAh battery.
Sony has recently stated that it is looking forward to improving the battery life on the device. Think something on the right side of 3000 mAh.
