ZUK Mobile Is Shutting Down, To Be Named ‘Lenovo Moto’ From Now On

In an interesting game move, Chinese multinational technology company Lenovo has announced to shut down its ZUK Mobile brand before its second anniversary. The company has also stated that the future models of ZUK Mobile would be named as Lenovo Moto.

ZUK Mobile is wrapping up after just 23 months of existence, just one month shy of its second anniversary.

The announcement was made by Lenovo analyst Pan Jiutang, who has admitted that the move was made in order to challenge its competitors on the Chinese market.

ZUK Mobiles is one of three names under which Lenovo sells phones, the other two being Moto and Lenovo itself. However, after ZUK Mobiles turned out to be unprofitable for Lenovo, which is also the youngest of the three brand names, the company has decided to shut down the brand.

ZUK Mobile is wrapping up after just 23 months of existence, just one month shy of its second anniversary. During this period, a total of five devices were launched, including ZUK Z1 and ZUK Z2. The latest flagship launched under its name was Zuk Edge. The report also means that the upcoming ZUK Z3, which was supposed to get launched in a couple of months, will also be left in the dark, as per NDTV Gadget 360 Degrees. The news comes from a conversation on Weibo, a Chinese social media platform.

As of now, it looks like Lenovo is pushing its Moto smartphones in order to leverage as much as possible from its legacy. The future phones will continue to use the Moto ‘Bat Wing’ logo.

Meanwhile, Alex Chen Yu, Vice-President of Lenovo, has confirmed that the upcoming smartphones of Moto will feature Zuk’s ZUI skin.

Qiao Jian, Lenovo’s Senior Vice-President and Co-President of Mobile Business, will be appointed as the head of Lenovo Mobile China after ZUK’s shut down.  On the other hand, Chen Xudong, co-founder of ZUK Moblie will return to the PC Business Unit of Lenovo. Nothing has been confirmed regarding the date on which ZUK gets closed.
