Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus May be Rebranded and Launched in India as Redmi Note 5

If the latest reports are anything to go by, the Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus may be rebranded and renamed and then launched as the Redmi Note 5 smartphone. The Redmi 5 Plus and the Redmi 5 were launched in China just about a month ago. We had also reported how the Redmi 5 and the 5 Plus would be launched worldwide in February 2018.

It now seems that the Redmi 5 Plus will be known as the Redmi Note 5 in India. Clinton Jeff, who is Product PR at Xiaomi, had said on Twitter that the next month (February) was “going to be lit.” A report by AndroidCentral, which you can access here, has also claimed that the company may launch the device next month. Note that the company has yet to say anything concrete on what the launch will entail and when it will be.

Given that the Redmi 4 was launched in India with much fanfare and was bot a critical and commercial success, it is hardly rocket science to presume that the new phone will make landfall soon in India.

Once in India, these phones will play a major role in disrupting the market.  In China, the Redmi 5 Plus retails for 999 Yuan (or approximately Rs 9,745) for the 3GB +32GB internal storage variant. The more premium 4GB variant with 32GB of internal/native storage comes for 1299 Yuan (or approximately Rs 12,675).

The all-new Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus smartphone boasts a handy 5.99-inch full HD+ display that has a 2160 x 1080 pixel resolution as well as an 18:9 aspect ratio. Powering the device is a 2GHz Octa-Core Snapdragon 625 processor also with the Adreno 506 GPU in tow. It has variants of 3GB/4GB RAM along with 32GB and 64GB of internal storage. Both these phones can be expanded to up to 128GB of storage via a dedicated Micro SD card slot. The smartphone also has a fingerprint scanner located, most probably, on its rear panel.
