HMD Global, the official license holder of Nokia has started rolling out the latest Android 8.1 Oreo update for the mid-range Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 smartphones. Google’s own Pixel and Nexus series devices are the only phones to get the Android 8.1 Oreo flavor so far. HMD Global also recently rolled out the update for Nokia 8.
As per a report by NokiaPowerUser, the Nokia 5 and Nokia 6 have already started receiving the Android 8.1 update and it is being rolled out in many countries simultaneously. The update is likely to be rolled out in other countries shortly. HMD Global has become a global leader when it comes to releasing the latest software updates and security patches apart from Google. With the rollout of the Android 8.1 version for the Nokia 5 and Nokia 6, the older Nokia 2 and Nokia 3 becomes the only devices not to receive the update so far.
The report also states that the Android 8.1 update for Nokia 5 comes with a size of 860MB and for the Nokia 6, it is 930MB. Along with the Android update, HMD Global is also rolling out the March security patch for the two devices. Some of the new features that the new update will bring onboard are battery saving navigation buttons, new settings menu, revamped power menu and Bluetooth battery percentage.
The Finnish company has also confirmed that all its flagship devices that were launched last year will receive Android P by the end of this year. HMD Global has always been miles ahead of the rest with timely software and security patch updates for all its devices. At the MWC 2018 global event, the company also announced that all its smartphones starting with Nokia 3 and higher will join the Android One program.
HMD Global has also sent media invites for an event that will be held in New Delhi on April 4. The company is likely to launch the Nokia 6(2018), Nokia 7 Plus and the Nokia 8 Sirocco models at the event.
