According to a new report, Snapchat is reportedly working on a new version of Spectacles that could be launched late this year and also another variant that will be equipped with two cameras for a 2019 launch date. Snapchat introduced its range of Spectacles with built-in cameras for the first time in 2016.
Snapchat is currently working on the second model of Spectacles with a late 2018 launch date. The company wants to introduce the new Spectacle before the end of the year. The new gadget could come with water resistance feature, new color, updated camera eyewear with focus on performance improvements, better security and bug fixes as well. Snapchat has recently revealed that it has sold 1,50,000 pairs of the original Spectacles that was launched in 2016 and has plans to sell even more units of the second model that is in works right now.
The company has also started work on a third model of Spectacles along with the second version and has plans to launch it in 2019. The third version will feature a new design with two built-in cameras. It could feature an aluminum design with more circular lens frames and two cameras with 3D like depth effects in videos. It may also include GPS tracking and could be priced at $300 which is double the price of the original version.
Any more details about the new Spectacles are not available right now and it seems Snapchat is keen to launch the new version in spite of suffering losses with the original version. Meanwhile, Snapchat is also rumored to partner with other companies to outsource the cameras for its glasses. The company is reportedly in talks with companies like Luxottica and Warby Parker right now.
Snapchat also has plans to incorporate some new features in its future Spectacles like Bitmoji avatars, animated lenses along with AR support. For now, the company could roll out the second version of the Spectacles by the third quarter of 2018.
