As for a matter of fact, the developers have included a brand new feature on WhatsApp which is coming up soon on Android’s beta versions shortly. The rollout report points that the beta users with version number 2.18.74 will be lucky enough to get hold of the support for adaptive launcher icons on WhatsApp. Meant exclusively for beta users, this new feature will be available for users who have opted to become beta testers of WhatsApp and hence will not be available for all the users of Android.
How to Get Adaptive Icons Support on Your Device?
The adaptive icons support has long been requested by fans and it happens to be one of the most awaited features on Android. It will apply a teardrop, circle, squircle, square, or oval mask as far as the other icons on the device are concerned which ensures a consistent as well as a seamless look. Gizbot reports that if you want to get adaptive icons support feature for WhatsApp, one of the requirements is you will have to be WhatsApp’s beta tester.
The second requirement to get this feature on your device is, you will have to use a launcher support for adaptive icons in order to take advantage of the brand new feature. Android launchers like Action Launcher, Nova Launcher, Lawnchair, Smart Launcher 5, and the likes which will give you the allowance to customize these adaptive icons as per users’ preference. If you are a Nexus or Pixel user, then you can change the app icons and for that, you will have to head to the stock launcher settings on your device. But before getting too excited about the new feature, you must remember that the company is only changing the design of the icon. And hence the same old green colored WhatsApp icon still continues to share its place on Android phones!
Whether or not this adaptive icons support would roll out to the stable version WhatsApp for Android is still left unsaid. But as of now, it is just limited to beta users.
