IFA 2018: Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme with DolbyVision HDR Display and Nvidia Graphics Launched

Chinese tech giant Lenovo has launched a new member in its ThinkPad edition of laptops at the IFA 2018. Dubbed as Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme, the laptop comes with enhanced multimedia and gaming capabilities. It introduces a new 15-inch form factor and a discrete Nvidia graphics card while maintaining a slim and light body. The laptop will be available from September at a price of $1,859 while the Intel Core i9 version of the laptop will arrive in December.

The ThinkPad X1 Extreme edition blends consumer and enterprise features perfectly into a single machine making it a powerful device suitable for high ending gaming. The design is similar to the X1 Carbon edition and features four layers of reinforced carbon fiber for its outer structure and aluminum alloy for the bottom cover to dissipate heat effectively.

The laptop supports Intel 8th generation Core i7 CPUs with vPro and an Intel Core i9 version is due to arrive in December. The released version of the laptop runs on Intel 8th generation Core i7-8850H, six-core multithreaded CPU with a base clock speed of 2.6GHz. Some of the other components include 64GB of DDR4 RAM, dual PCIe M.2 SSDs in RAID and Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 Ti with MaxQ and 4GB of GDDR5 RAM. It features a 15.6-inch display with 4K resolution and Dolby Vision HDR support. It also supports touch input with a rechargeable Lenovo Pen Pro stylus.

Connectivity options include two USB 3.1 ports, two USB Type-C ports (Thunderbolt 3), a headphone and microphone combo socket, HDMI and an SD card reader. For enhanced security, the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme comes with Smartcard, a fingerprint sensor, IR camera for Windows Hello, ThinkShutter camera cover for privacy, Kensington lock slot and TPM 2.0 module. Wireless connectivity options include Bluetooth 5.0 and dual-band Wifi 802.11ac. It is powered by an 80Wh battery that can power the device for up to 15 hours on a single charge cycle and also supports Fast Charging.
