OnePlus 6 has started receiving the first major OxygenOS Open Beta update based on Android 9.0 Pie. OnePlus has started to roll out the update after releasing the Android P beta update a couple of months ago. Notably, the OnePlus 6 is one of the earliest devices to receive the latest Android 9 Pie build that was rolled out by Google last month. Along with the Android 9 Pie update, the OxygenOS Open Beta 1 build also include Do Not Disturb and Gaming Mode 3.0.
As per the official changelog available on the official OnePlus forum, the OxygenOS Open Beta 1 includes a new user interface based on Android 9 Pie. Additionally, it also includes the Android 9 gesture navigation feature that is quite similar to the gesture control system introduced on the Apple iPhone X.
The OnygenOS Open Beta update also brings a slew of improvements and customizations. It includes support for accent color customization to improve the user experience on the OnePlus 6. It also brings a Do Not Disturb mode with adjustable settings. Apart from these, there is a Gaming Mode 3.0 feature that brings text notification feature for third-party calls.
Since this is a beta version, there are a few glitches and after installing the update your device may not function properly. OnePlus has already notified that some functions may not work as expected after installing the beta update. For example, Google Play services will not work after the update and you will get a message stating “Device is not certified by Google”.
In order to download and install the latest OxygenOS Open Beta update, you will need to download the ROM upgrade package from the official OxygenOS server and then copy that update to your OnePLus 6 storage. Once copied, you can head to Settings> System Updates and tap on the gear icon to open Local Upgrade. Now tap on the installation package and tap Immediately Upgrade> System Upgrade to 100%. Finally, select the Reboot System option to update your device successfully.
